Document Scanner Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 2, 2026
Thank you for using Document Scanner. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how the app handles information related to you.
Please read this policy before using the app. By using the app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.
In short
- No personal information is collected; no account or sign-in is required
- Your scans stay on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers and are excluded from cloud backup
- The app has no internet permission and uses the camera only while you scan
- Edge detection, perspective correction, filters and PDF creation all happen on your device
- No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
1. Information we collect
Document Scanner lets you photograph or import paper documents, receipts and notes, finds their edges, corrects the perspective, removes shadows and exports them as PDFs or images.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information, nor do we collect device identifiers, location, contacts or usage data. The app has no account system; all features work without signing in.
The app does not request the internet permission. It is technically unable to send your documents or any other data to our servers, and we have no access to your documents.
2. Two ways to scan
Built-in scanner: uses the app's own camera screen. The camera preview is used only on your device to find document edges in real time; nothing is recorded or saved until you press the shutter. All processing happens inside the app.
Google scanner: if your device has Google Play services, the app uses the document scanning screen provided by Google Play services (Google ML Kit document scanner) by default. The scanning screen runs in Google Play services; scanned images are processed on the device and returned to this app. On first use, Google Play services may need to download the scanner module. Data handled by Google Play services is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). You can switch to always using the built-in scanner in Settings → Scanner.
Importing from your gallery: images you pick in the system picker are copied into the app's private storage for processing. The app does not browse your gallery.
3. Storing documents
Your documents (original photos, processed pages and page settings) are stored only in the app's private storage. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in system settings deletes them.
Because documents may contain IDs, receipts and other sensitive content, the documents folder is excluded from Android's cloud backup. Documents are moved to a new phone only if you use the system's device-to-device transfer. A few settings, such as the app language and scanner choice, may be backed up by Android to your own Google account; we have no access to those backups.
When you choose "Save PDF to device" or "Save images to gallery", the files are saved to the Download/Document Scanner or Pictures/Document Scanner folder on your device, where you manage them yourself.
4. Permissions
Camera: used only to photograph documents with the built-in scanner. When you use the Google scanner, the camera is used by the Google Play services scanning screen.
Storage (write): only on Android 9 and below, used to save PDFs and images to public folders. Android 10 and above do not need this permission.
The app does not request internet, location, contacts, phone or microphone permissions.
5. Sharing
PDFs and images are passed to another app only when you tap Share and choose that app in the system share sheet. That app handles the data under its own privacy policy.
6. Third-party services
The app does not include any advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. The Google scanner is provided by Google Play services, as described in section 2.
The app is distributed through Google Play. Depending on your device settings, Google may collect diagnostic information such as installs and crashes, which is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
7. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from any user, including children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, the law or our operations change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a new effective date. If a new version materially changes how data is handled, we will notify you prominently in the app.
9. Contact us
