QR & Barcode Scanner Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 1, 2026
Thank you for using QR & Barcode Scanner. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how the app handles information related to you.
Please read this policy before using the app. By using the app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.
In short
- No personal information is collected; no account or sign-in is required
- Codes are recognized on your device; the camera image is never photographed, saved or uploaded
- The app has no internet permission, and your scan history stays on your device
- No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
1. Information we collect
QR & Barcode Scanner lets you scan QR codes and barcodes, read codes from images, create and customize QR codes, keep a history and add codes to your home screen.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information, nor do we collect device identifiers, location, contacts or usage data. The app has no account system; all features work without signing in.
The app does not request the internet permission. It is technically unable to send scanned content or any other data to a server, and we have no access to your history.
2. Permissions
Camera: used only on the scan screen to recognize QR codes and barcodes in real time. Frames are analyzed in memory one by one; the app does not take photos or record video and nothing is saved. If you deny camera access, you can still scan images and create QR codes.
Vibration: a short vibration when a code is recognized. You can turn it off in Settings.
Storage (write): only on Android 9 and below, used when you choose "Save image" to save a QR code to your gallery. Android 10 and above do not need this permission.
When you scan an image or choose a logo for a QR code, you pick it in the system photo picker; the app can read only the image you select and does not need permission to read your storage.
The app does not request internet, location, contacts, phone or microphone permissions.
3. Scanned content and history
Codes you scan or create are saved in the app's private storage on your device for your history, favorites and later viewing. Other apps cannot access them. You can turn off "Save history" in Settings, delete individual items or clear the whole history at any time.
A logo image you choose for a QR code is resized and copied into the app's private storage, and it is deleted together with the item that uses it.
If you have enabled backup on your device, Android may back up your history and settings to your own Google account; we have no access to those backups. Logo images are not backed up. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes all records.
4. Acting on scan results
Opening a link, joining Wi-Fi, adding a contact, calling, sending a message or email, opening a map, adding a calendar event or searching the web only happens after you tap the action, and is handled by the system or the app you choose. Those apps handle data under their own privacy policies.
To protect you from phishing, the app never opens scanned links automatically; it shows the full address for you to check first.
5. Home screen shortcuts
When you add a code to your home screen, your home screen app stores the shortcut name, its icon (the QR code image) and the matching record number in this app, so that tapping it opens that code. You can remove the shortcut from your home screen at any time.
6. Third-party services
The app uses the open-source ZXing library to read and generate codes on your device. It does not connect to the internet or collect data. The app does not include any advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
The app is distributed through Google Play. Depending on your device settings, Google may collect diagnostic information such as installs and crashes, which is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
7. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from any user, including children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, the law or our operations change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a new effective date. If a new version materially changes how data is handled, we will notify you prominently in the app.
9. Contact us
If you have any questions or requests about this policy or your privacy, please contact us at [email protected].
