Pedometer Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 11, 2026
Thank you for using Pedometer. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how the app handles information related to you.
Please read this policy before using the app. By using the app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.
In short
- Your steps and other activity data are stored only on your device and never uploaded
- The app has no internet permission; no account or sign-in is required
- The app does not use location (GPS) and does not track where you go
- No data is shared with third parties or used for advertising
- No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
1. Information we process
Pedometer reads your phone's built-in step counter sensor to record the steps you take each day and each hour. Distance, calories burned and walking time are estimated from your steps and the height (or step length) and weight you enter.
Your step records, the height, weight, step length, daily goal and units you enter, and your other settings are stored only in the app's private storage on your device. We have no access to them.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information, nor do we collect device identifiers, location or contacts. The app has no account system and does not request the internet permission, so it is technically unable to send any data to our servers.
2. How data is stored and deleted
Step records are stored by the hour in the app's database. They do not expire, so you can look back at past records at any time.
You can save your daily steps as a CSV file in Settings → Export records. The file is saved to a location you choose, and what you do with it is up to you.
Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in system settings deletes all step records and settings.
Step records and settings are included in the Android system backup to your own Google account, so they can be restored on a new phone or after reinstalling (depending on your backup settings). This is an Android system feature; we have no access to those backups.
3. Permissions
Physical activity (Android 10 and later): used to read the phone's step counter sensor. Without it, steps cannot be counted, but past records can still be viewed.
Foreground service (health): keeps reading the step counter in the background and shows today's steps in a notification. You can turn off Count steps in Settings to pause; steps taken while paused are not recorded.
Notifications (Android 13 and later): used to show today's steps in the notification shade and to alert you when you reach your daily goal. Steps are counted even without it.
Run at startup: continues counting automatically after the phone restarts or the app is updated.
The app does not request internet, location, camera, microphone, storage or contacts permissions.
4. Health and fitness data
Steps, distance, calories and walking time are fitness-related data. They are used only to show them to you in the app; they are not used for advertising, not sold, not shared with any third party and not written to other health platforms.
Distance and calories are estimates based on your steps and the body data you enter. They are for reference only and are not intended for medical diagnosis or treatment.
5. Third-party services
The app does not include any advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
The app is distributed through Google Play. Depending on your device settings, Google may collect diagnostic information such as installs and crashes, which is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
6. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from any user, including children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, the law or our operations change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a new effective date. If a new version materially changes how data is handled, we will notify you prominently in the app.
