Privacy Policy
PDF Reader Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 11, 2026
Thank you for using PDF Reader. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how the app handles information related to you.
Please read this policy before using the app. By using the app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.
In short
- No personal information is collected; no account or sign-in is required
- PDFs you open stay on your device and are never uploaded to our servers
- The app requests no permissions at all, including internet access
- Passwords you enter for protected PDFs are never stored
- No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
1. Information we collect
PDF Reader is a tool for viewing PDF files. You can open PDFs from your phone or from other apps, search the text, jump using the table of contents, zoom in, and share or print through the system.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information, nor do we collect device identifiers, location, contacts or usage data. The app has no account system; all features work without signing in.
The app does not request the internet permission. It is technically unable to send your files or any other data to our servers, and we have no access to your files.
2. How files are handled and stored
When you pick a PDF in the system file picker, or choose to open or share a PDF with PDF Reader from another app, a copy is saved in the app's private storage so you can open it again from the Recent list. The original file is not changed.
The app keeps a local record of the file name, size, page count, the last page you read and whether you starred it, and creates a first-page thumbnail for files without a password. All of this stays on your device.
You can remove a file from the list on the home screen, or clear recent files in Settings (starred files are kept); the app deletes the matching copies. When the copies take up more than 500 MB, the app automatically deletes the copies you have not opened for the longest time, except starred ones. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in system settings deletes all copies and records.
Opened files and reading history are not included in the Android system backup. Only settings such as night mode and keep screen on are backed up to your own Google account (depending on your backup settings). We have no access to those backups.
3. Password-protected PDFs
When you open a password-protected PDF, the password you enter is only used on your device to decrypt that file. It is never stored or sent anywhere.
To display the content, the app creates a temporary decrypted copy in its private cache and deletes it as soon as you leave the reader. No thumbnail is created for protected files; the Recent list shows a lock icon instead. The copy kept in Recent is the original protected file, so you need to enter the password again next time.
4. Permissions
The app does not request any system permissions, including internet, storage, camera, microphone, location or contacts.
Files on your phone are accessed through Android's Storage Access Framework: the app can only read files that you explicitly choose in the system file picker, or that another app explicitly hands to it.
5. Links, sharing and printing
When you tap a web, email or phone link in a PDF, the app asks you first and only passes the link to a browser or another app after you confirm. Those apps handle the data under their own privacy policies.
A file is passed to another app only when you tap Share and choose that app in the system share sheet. When you print, the file is handed to the system print service, where you choose a printer or save as PDF.
6. Third-party services
The app does not include any advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
The app is distributed through Google Play. Depending on your device settings, Google may collect diagnostic information such as installs and crashes, which is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
7. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from any user, including children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, the law or our operations change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a new effective date. If a new version materially changes how data is handled, we will notify you prominently in the app.
9. Contact us
If you have any questions or requests about this policy or your privacy, please contact us at [email protected].
