Notepad Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 11, 2026
Thank you for using Notepad. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how the app handles information related to you.
Please read this policy before using the app. By using the app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.
In short
- No personal information is collected; no account or sign-in is required
- Your notes, checklists, labels and reminders stay on your device and are never uploaded to our servers
- The app has no internet permission
- The notification permission is only used to show reminders at the times you set
- No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
1. Information we collect
Notepad is a tool for writing notes and checklists. You can give notes colors, labels and reminders, put a note on your home screen with a widget, and export a backup file.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information, nor do we collect device identifiers, location, contacts or usage data. The app has no account system; all features work without signing in.
The app does not request the internet permission. It is technically unable to send your notes or any other data to our servers, and we have no access to your notes.
2. How notes are stored
Your notes, checklists, labels, colors and reminder times are stored in the app's private database on your device. Deleted notes go to the trash first and are permanently deleted after 30 days; you can also delete them permanently or empty the trash at any time.
Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in system settings deletes all notes.
The notes database and app settings are included in the Android system backup to your own Google account, so they can be restored on a new phone or after reinstalling (depending on your backup settings). This is an Android system feature; we have no access to those backups.
3. Exporting and importing backups
Only when you tap Export backup does the app write all notes and labels (excluding the trash) to a JSON file, saved to the location you choose in the system file picker. The file is not encrypted, so please keep it safe.
Restore from backup only reads the file you explicitly choose in the system file picker and adds its notes to the app. Existing notes are never deleted.
4. Permissions
Notifications (Android 13 and later): requested only when you set your first reminder, and used only to show reminder notifications at the times you set. You can use all note features without it; reminders just will not appear. Reminder notifications are marked private, so whether note content shows on the lock screen depends on your system settings.
Alarms and reminders (exact alarms): lets reminders appear on time. From Android 14 you need to allow it in system settings; without it, reminders may be a few minutes late.
Run at startup: after the phone restarts, or the system time or time zone changes, the app registers upcoming reminders again and shows reminders that were missed while the phone was off.
The app does not request internet, storage, camera, microphone, location or contacts permissions.
5. Widgets, sharing and shortcuts
When you put a note on your home screen with the widget, its content is visible on the home screen to anyone who sees your phone. Please avoid placing sensitive content there.
A note is passed to another app only when you tap Share and choose that app in the system share sheet. Text shared to Notepad from another app is saved as a new note. Those apps handle the data under their own privacy policies.
6. Third-party services
The app does not include any advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
The app is distributed through Google Play. Depending on your device settings, Google may collect diagnostic information such as installs and crashes, which is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
7. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from any user, including children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, the law or our operations change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a new effective date. If a new version materially changes how data is handled, we will notify you prominently in the app.
